The Weather Thread
It snowed today for HOURS. Not just a little snow mixed with rain like the other day early in the morning, either. This was HUGE flakes, coming down hard. Silver-dollar sized flakes. It wasn't sticking except to a few leaves and stuff but it was so pretty coming down. I was captivated. Couldn't stop looking out the window. I love the snow. It's my favorite kind of weather, and winter is my favorite time of year.
What kind of weather do you like best?

One of the reasons I moved down to NC was to get away from the Chicago winters and all the snow. It is a little hotter here in the summer than I'm used to, but as long as my air conditioner is working I can live with that.
I can't really say that I have a favorite kind of weather, but I do like it when it's warm enough that I don't have to wear more than a light jacket, but not so hot that I'm uncomfortable. A nice breeze helps, too. |

Growing up in the southern AZ desert gave me a strong, strong, strong dislike of summers and hot weather, and a longing for "real" winter. I would spend Christmas breaks with grandparents in Connecticut, so I knew what real winters were like and I loved them. The DC area was better, but when I moved to Cleveland, climate-wise it was like heaven on earth. I expect Massachusetts to be similar. Sure, we won't get the lake effect snow, but I think the area gets as much snow anyway. It's only in recent years that I've gotten any appreciation at all for summers. It's only since living in an area without brutal heat for long enough that I've come to realize that they're OK. Previously, I just had an instinctive gut-level emotional/psychological revulsion to the whole concept of summer.

Autumn in Southern California. Until about Thanksgiving, the weather is still warm enough to sit on the beach without a shirt, the waves are the best of the year, no crowds, and the fires make for the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets in the world.

I like fall best.
Love winter - wouldn't live 30 minutes from Canada if I didn't. I enjoy the awakening of spring, but the mud season kinda bums me out a bit (we live in rural area - lots of mud). Parts of summer I like, but it's my least favorite season, overall. Searing heat, oppressive energy-sapping humidity, blood-sucking bugs on a biblical scale...what's not to like? We do need summer for our gardens though, so I appreciate that aspect. But that's about it. |

Autumn is awesome. Right now, the days are fresh and pleasantly warm-but-not-hot, the nights are cool-but-not-cold. Low humidity, light breezes, beautiful colors -- everything is very fine.
Springtime in Texas is a wonderful thing, but it doesn't last as long as I'd like. The summers are ridiculous. The heat and humidity are awful. Winter can be okay, but autumn is best. |

I'll have what sf is having. I just wanted to come in and say that, even though it's been a month, I distinctly remember the day Opal was talking about. It was gorgeous, but get ready for more, and more, and more.

It's raining here again. Missouri had one of the wettest Octobers on record, and it looks like we were only given a short respite before lots more rain.
We aren't even going to get a change in the precipitation type for a while. The temperature here has not yet hit freezing this season, and isn't predicted to do so before December. Last week we even had some days that hit 60+ degrees in the daytime. I'll be surprised if we see snow at all before the end of the year.

We've had an extremely wet year here. Much more rain than usual. No killing frost yet, either. It's actually very similar to the weather we had leading up the the ice storm last winter. I hope we don't have another of those.
