What's your latest music buy?

I kinda blew the budget on this one. I picked it up on sale and now I have hours of classical music to listen to. The anniversary box sets give you plenty of variety and they make a nice sampler for things you never would have thought about buying.

I picked up the Chandos box set a while back and I still have a lot of disks I haven't listened to yet.

I should be good for quite a while now on the classical side of things.

I bought The Beatles Stereo Box Set about a month ago (when it was only $179) and ripped it all to my iTunes library. Thanks to iTunes, the Abbey Road medley has been chopped up with 2 second intervals between tracks. There are similar issues with Sgt. Pepper. It kind of reminds me of those 8-tracks that faded out and back in when a song got spread over 2 sides. Also, every song on Beatles for Sale is listed in Japanese characters. The fake stereo on the early stuff isn't as annoying as some people are saying. Rubber Soul and Revolver sound better than I've ever heard them before.

I'm getting a little Beatled out, so I've gone back to hunting down downloads of obscure '60s surf instrumentals. I don't remember if it was a post by Flopper or Mr. K that reminded me that my library's a little light on Herb Alpert. My versions of "Casino Royale" and "Music to Watch Girls By" were ripped from some scratchy vinyl, so those are at the top of my shopping list.

It was probably me that brought up Herb Alpert since I posted about going to his concert.

There used to be a radio station that would play all of the Beatles songs from A to Z. It was always fun to have the instruments coming out of one channel and the vocals coming out the other.

Yes, Surgo. People buy music. Quit making people our age look bad.

My latest purchase is I think Dixie Chicks' albums, Taking the Long Way and Home.

Of course! With the added advantage that you never get to pick the next song--or any song, for that matter. A few of us get a hankering for a particular song every now and then, and listening to that song requires either purchasing it, requesting it from a radio station (and waiting until they get around to playing it), or stealing it.

Or want to listen to the same song four million times in a row (okay, maybe that's just me) which eliminates the middle option.

Listening to Pandora is, of course, just like listening to any radio station, in the sense that you don't get to choose the next song -- or any song, for that matter. But that's okay with me, because I know that sooner or later, all my favorites will come around, and in the meantime I get exposed to some great stuff that I either had never heard before, or had not heard in a long time.

I use XM/Sirius in the car, and by listening to the channels of my choice, I get just about everything I want -- sooner or later. At home, I'd usually rather read a book. My wife watches a good bit of TV, but she does it by herself, for the most part. I find very little on television that's worth my time and attention, but the library and the bookstores are stuffed with things that I like!

I haven't actually bought any music lately (like in the last six or eight months). But I should.

Interesting purchase just this evening: I was watching a documentary on Ray Davies and decided I needed to download a few classics by The Kinks. (I thought) I stumbled upon a greatest hits collection (18 songs) that restricted itself to just the really good stuff from the '60s for only $10.95. Right after I tapped the download button and entered my iTunes password I realized I'd just bought an album by a Kinks tribute band called The Kinx.

The kicker is that they actually sound really good.

I'm pretty sure there's an option in iTunes for eliminating that gap...I don't have access to it right now though.

My most recent CD purchase was Dethklok's Dethalbum II.
